The Movies - 3 years

The 18 of February 2002 was the first day Adrian Moore - Lead Designer - and James Brown - Lead Game Programmer - started working on The Movies. This is also the birth of the game. After three years in development, 2005 will be the last year of 'The work in progress'.

Last Friday Adrian gave a presentation of the game to the entire team; along with a few drinks we all saw it looked amazing. It's nice to see the work of the different departments come together. But what did the ' starters' think of it, compared to the ideas of three years ago when it all began?

We've asked James and Adrian a few questions about the idea of the game three years ago and what's become of it now.

Adrian Moore: 'The game is shaping up to be better than I could ever have imagined. We had a vision 3 years ago to create a simple, accessible, entertaining, pick-up-and-play game with lots of depth. We wanted to be able to let players design their own studio lot, look after and makeover their movie stars, and make their own movies. We wanted to allow people to export their movies to avi format so they may email them to their friends. We're achieving all of that ambition!'

Adrian Moore: ' The main thing I am so happy about is the interface - the way the player interacts with the game. It's so easy and simple to do it truly is possible to pick up The Movies game and be playing it within a couple of minutes.'

Adrian Moore: 'We aimed high, and I thought we may not be able to achieve everything we wanted. It's turning out to be everything I expected it to be, and more!'

James Brown : 'It's a fantastic game. There's so much in there for people to do, but it manages to be presented in a way that doesn't swamp the player with stats and buttons. As we come into the final stages of development, all the little details of interacting with the game are being polished up, and it's a joy to play around with.'

James Brown : ' It's certainly more than I expected, the sheer amount of content is mind-boggling. Just playing around in the costume screen can keep me occupied for hours.'
