General Chit-Chat
Last time I talked about the villager AI in Fable, and some of the reactions were
just brilliant and others hysterical! Some people didn't believe it, certain that
Lionhead couldn't include all of those features. But the fact is; all of the features
mentioned (getting married ...) are already implemented and will be included in
the final game; some of them could be seen in the video released at D.I.C.E. Other
people made very interesting points and thought provoking questions were asked.
Some of these questions will be included in the FAQ later on.
The FAQ’s were released last week. The reactions were and sometimes still
are; huge. Some people just don't seem to understand the game - and I hope this
FAQ might solve some concerns or doubts. The majority thought it gave a realistic
idea on what to expect of Fable. A lot has changed for this game since it was first
announced and all for the best! My first experience with what we call Fable today
was back in May '99, when I came in for work experience to Lionhead. It was called
Wishworld (back then it was still in very early stages and not announced yet); one
island with a model of the hero and a placeholder for a fireball. Nothing more;
apart from the fact you could jump. I don't miss it at all though when I play Fable
nowadays! There are still several questions that are unanswered (not only on our
official boards) and I will do my best to get an answer to those.
The English humor in this game is just of a scale never seen before; or at least
for me. Some of the dialogue is just hilarious! Your Hero, as you know, doesn't
communicate by use of words but by the use of the right expressions. This is Fable,
things are done differently and they really work well. I always compare the story
with a typical fable, for a better idea of how the story works visit the official
website. It's different but ingeniously done! NPC's react to you as a player and
your actions or expressions... They do not respond to pre-defined sentences that
you select from a menu when you want to interact with a NPC, which to our knowledge
is how the majority of RPG’s work. So we think this is a gaming first!!!
Peter Molyneux will be speaking at GDC this year, so I guess Fable will also be
mentioned. I am looking forward to it already!
The Movies FAQ was also released that same week, and everyone was happy with it.
So was I; as it is a realistic view of the game in its current form, but just like
all games things could change. The Movies has a clear path of where it is going,
and it seems to be on schedule, but please don't pin me down on that! There is still
a lot of work to do. Many different websites have been founded (most of them can
be found at the links page), and they all require some of my time, I believe independent
websites are important for the community. It may take a while before I answer emails
- but don't be afraid to resend a message! If you really annoy me, I will let you
know. lol

I am getting a little lost - sitting here and listening to a bootleg of Strawberry
Fields - quite interesting; misunderstanding all you see?

After GDC (beginning of April) we will also host a developer chat for The Movies
and B.C., with the development team present, answering your questions. Let's see
if we finally can break the record set by Black&White Studios! ;)
